The Keeper Watches

Painted over many months on the South Carolina coast, The Vigil is a meditation on standing guard.

The surface holds layers of storm blue, weathered silver, driftwood brown and salt white - colors pulled from the Atlantic after a storm. From a distance it is calm, almost monochromatic. Up close, it breaks apart into aggressive brushwork, scraped oil pastel, and raw textures that catch the light like wet sand.

Two ghost-like forms stand in the upper field - watchers, keepers, ancestors. They are not painted in, but excavated out of the layers beneath. The painting is about what remains when you strip everything away - the quiet strength of something that refuses to leave.

Black float frame. Heavy texture. The painting changes dramatically throughout the day as light moves across it.

For collectors who understand that the most powerful art doesn't shout - it stands watch.

MEDIUM: Mixed media on canvas - acrylic, oil pastel, and graphite. Heavy impasto and dry-scrape technique. Thin black metal float frame. The surface is heavily textured - you can see the raised oil pastel drags and scraped back layers in the top third where the two keeper forms are excavated out.

PALETTE: Primary: Storm blue (dusty slate / Wedgwood), weathered silver, warm fog gray. Secondary: Driftwood brown, burnt umber, salt white, bone. Accent: Deep indigo blue breaks, touches of metallic silver / pewter catching light. Overall: Low saturation, almost monochromatic from distance - reads as a soft blue-gray abstract. Up close it's much warmer with those browns breaking through.

VIBE / STYLE: Style: Abstract expressionism / Wabi-Sabi / Modern coastal minimalism. Mood: Quiet, meditative, protective - like a foggy morning on the Atlantic after a storm. Not energetic, it's a standing guard vibe. Mature, collected, masculine-leaning but soft enough for coastal.
